FLOW'S CLASSES

The day's classes are split into three sessions: morning (8 to 11 o'clock), afternoon (1 to 4 o'clock), and evening (4 to 9 o'clock) classes. Two hours are set aside for lunch, two hours for dinner. Children at FLOW go through an intense curriculum. They attend public school in the morning or afternoon and attend more classes after they get back home. The distance from FLOW to the primary school is 1.5 kilometers, whereas the secondary/high school is three kilometers away. Children either walk or ride bicycles to school, and because of a lack of bikes, it is not uncommon to find two children sharing a seat on the same bicycle. Each class session at FLOW runs for an hour in length. English is a required subject, computer class is taken by students with certain English level, with classes in the arts (sewing, dancing, or music) being voluntary. Much like the role of extracurricular activities in foreign schools, these classes allow the children to display their creativity and !
to appreciate traditional Khmer cultural arts.

[ English Class ]

English Class English Class is taught by Sok Chea and Long Kan. Sok Chea teaches the primary-aged children using "Let's Go 1 - 4" and "Side by Side 1 and 2". Long Kan teaches the evening classes for older children, focusing more so on writing and reading comprehension. This is a photo of a child in our English class. The enthusiasm with which the children answer questions can be heard all the way across the orphanage as they learn to pronounce words, read passages and even sing English songs.

[ Arts Classes ]

Arts Classes Classes in classical music and the performing arts are taught here at FLOW. Traditional Cambodian instruments are used for instruction and classical ballet and folk dances are taught to the children to foster appreciation for Cambodian culture. These classes are taught together because the cooperation between the instrument players and dancers are needed to make a performance. Here are some illustrations of the dance and music class.
